The population of Garfield, Texas, had dwindled to just a few hundred by the late 1800s, and it was as low as twenty by the late 1940s. The county highway map of Garfield, TX, from 1948 shows two churches, a few businesses, and a few scattered homes. Fortunately, the town began to grow again in the 1980s, as developments along the Colorado River began to bring new residents to the area.
